a post about my lack of posts
I just haven’t been feeling the muse anymore. There has been plenty to write about, too. I just have nothing to say. But yeah, I’m still here.

Not only have the Patriots lost, but they were the heavy favorites. Finally, some good news. David really can defeat Goliath.

I took a photography class at Hillsdale College in 2004 with art professor Sam Knecht. One of my personal favorites out of all the pictures I took was this one.

Thomas Jefferson is slated to be the new icon on the U.S. Mint’s dollar coin, to be released tomorrow. Their stated goal is to raise awareness of America’s third president. But are they aware of what Jefferson thought of the government printing money? Even though it is technically a coin, this quote is extremely relevant, and for increased entertainment value, highly ironic:
“The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the Principles and form of our Constitution. I am an Enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but Coin. If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.” - Thomas Jefferson
Internet TV that is - instant streaming. It’s pretty good. Check it out!
Mike Robinette is a simple-minded asshat. There, I said it. On his blog, DaytonOS, he opens a discussion about Section 8 housing by accusing Oakwood residents of racism right off the bat. What a great way to build dialogue, Mikey. Since he won’t publish the flame/comment I left to his post, I’ll put it here:
Welfare causes drug use and crime. What the fuck do you expect these people to do, just sit back and take it while the crime rate goes up?
If section 8 housing leads to crime, but it’s racist to say that, then I guess it makes giving an honest accounting of reality ‘racist’.
You’re racist and retarded for implying that all people using section 8 housing are …. black.
Granted, this was not the most reasoned, rational response to such a pathetic internet troll, but one good turn deserves another, eh?
For the uninitiated, DMHA (Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, aka the government subsidized local slumlords) and HUD are providing Section 8 vouchers for “low-income families” to move into areas in Kettering bordering the small, bucolic town of Oakwood. Naturally, Oakwood is hated by Daytonians because people in Oakwood are generally more wealthy than people in other places. Also, Oakwood is predominantly white. For these high crimes, Oakwoodites are generally reviled by their neighbors. An example of this hatred can be found in the comments of the Dayton Daily News article on the controversy surrounding these new housing moves. It makes sense that residents of Oakwood oppose the move of Section 8 housing into their area, because for some mysterious reason, public housing leads to higher crime rates. Of course, it’s also racist to point that out, I’m sure.
Disclaimer: I grew up in Oakwood. I work in and pay taxes in Dayton. I live in Beavercreek. I have actually seen how people live in Section 8 housing, unlike most of you starry-eyed socialists with your ridiculous notions of working class heroes and truly disadvantaged people being uplifted by the state. Reality is a little different. Sorry.
UPDATE: Looks like my comment on DaytonOS was finally approved in the moderation queue.
This Zeitgeist film is essentially a series of conspiracy theories that don’t necessarily directly connect to eachother. Rather, the director strongly suggests there is an implicit connection between the three subjects of the film, done in three parts.
Like any entertaining documentary film, the presentation and editing are heavily biased to make you believe the explicit and implicit suggestions being made by the filmmaker. It’s pretty long, but it is fun to watch. Here is the film embedded from Google Video:
Part 1 is about the alleged pagan roots of the story of Jesus Christ. Part 2 is about the supposedly unanswered questions and mysterious coincidences that happened on 9/11 and the conspiracy theories surrounding it. Part 3 is about the Federal Reserve System and the alleged conspiracy by captains of American industry to set it up. Indeed, the film makes some pretty outrageous claims, some of which are better supported than others, and all of which totally avoid their counterarguments. But it’s the 9/11 Truth Movement’s equivalent of a Michael Moore documentary: totally one-sided, oftentimes poorly researched, and above all fun to watch. To me, the most interesting part was Part 1, because I hadn’t heard all of the claims made about Christianity that this film makes - and I really don’t know how much water those claims hold because I know very little about pagan mythology and astrology. The other stuff for the most part I had already heard from one place or another.
I will probably update this post or write a new one in the coming weeks about this film as I find it to be a very interesting cultural phenomenon. Something like 1/3rd of Americans believe that 9/11 was or could have been an inside job. The Zeitgeist film runs a little long but it’s worth watching for this reason alone, in my opinion.
I’m using Apathy, a clever new theme that has some features I have been wanting to implement on this blog for some time, but am too lazy to implement myself. More thoughts on this and blogging in general inside this post.

A Troy Christian School coach was arrested for having sex with a 15 year old girl. This sort of rank hypocrisy was common amongst the charismatics and evangelicals that were always in your face about religion when I went to Dayton Christian High School for two years. I for one am not surprised.
If you want to read the article and don’t want to register on the Dayton Daily News’ terrible website, I have pasted the article here in its entirety:
Bail set for Troy coach facing felony sex charges
Dayton Daily News
Tuesday, July 24, 2007
TROY — Bail of $50,000 was ordered Monday for a former Troy Christian School coach facing felony charges of sexual battery and pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.
James H. Clay, 40, of Piqua, is accused of engaging in activity with a 15-year-old girl and filming part of it, sheriff’s Capt. Dave Duchak said.
The battery charge was filed because Clay, at the time of the alleged activity, was in a position of trust as a basketball coach, Duchak said.
School officials were not available for comment Monday.
Clay is to appear in Miami County Municipal Court on July 31.
For some reason I had registration enabled for commenting on this blog. That was unintentional, because the way Wordpress’ options in this version organize the commenting rules, there are two separate places where you can edit settings, and I must have forgotten to check one of the places. In any event, you no longer need to register to comment on this blog. I have changed it so you may need to provide email and a name, but I promise your email will never be used for spam or some other nefarious purpose. Since I opened comments back up, the amount of comment spam has increased a bit, but it’s nothing I can’t handle.

It looks like McCain could win a lot of support if he promised to nominate Ron Paul to Secretary of the Treasury. Would it be enough to beat a Democrat contender this election? At this stage, probably not. But if the Obama v Hillary battle continues on much longer it will hurt the Democrats a lot.
Obama can beat McCain, Hillary would have a harder time.
My congressional district, the Ohio 3rd district, is currently occupied by Republican Mike Turner. Mr. Turner is a bandwagon politician. He does nothing notable but bring pork to Dayton. That’s not useful. He supported the war on Iraq, he has supported every Bush policy that I can think of, and it is time for him to retire and move back to Dayton where he has to live like the rest of us. That said, I am endorsing David Esrati for Congress in the Ohio 3rd District. Now, you might be asking yourself why would a Ron Paul supporter and a former Republican ever endorse a Democrat of all things? Well …
There, I said it. Straussians, especially like the people at the Claremont Institute and Hillsdale College, and the Department of Defense and the White House, have all but ruined our country. I think Leo Strauss himself was much misunderstood, in fact, and the people harming America by dragging us into war, after war, after war, are the people that we must hold to account every year by going out and voting, and more importantly, by taking action. The loss of liberty in this country has gone on too long. We must make our stand, every day, and say, “Across this line you shall not pass.”
This is of course a …

Of late, not much has happened to pique my interest or get me writing again. Perhaps that will change in time. Meanwhile, enjoy this brief and somewhat incomplete list of films that I’ve seen so far in 2008. This includes films new and old, the only requirement for the list is that I had never seen them before:
Kind Hearts and Coronets (brilliant)
The Kingdom (well made but that’s about it)
Doomsday (utterly terrible)
Borat (a few cheap laughs was not worth it)
City Hunter (not worth explaining why I watched this)
Juno (vastly overrated in my opinion)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (solidly unfunny and too long)
Breathless (early, classic Jean Luc Godard, worth watching at least once since he …
My friend Chris Brown and I made a video to the song “Mush Room” done by my friends in Grizzzzy Bear (myspace profile, artist page), a local Dayton band on the Squid’s Eye Record Label. The song is released on their self titled album. Check it out!
