My comment on Ron Paul published in the Dayton Daily News!

Last Wednesday or Thursday, the DDN posted an article about the election and asked a question on their website: Who Would You Choose, Hillary or Giuliani? Many people said they would choose neither. About six people that I could count mentioned Ron Paul. Over time, the comment section for the article turned into a bit of a flame war and it appeared that the DDN took it offline. This has happened before and the comments are usually lost down the memory hole. For example, comments on the article about the City of Dayton not being able to account for 32 million dollars lasted all of an hour or so on the DDN website.

In the Saturday, August 11 edition of the Dayton Daily News, I noticed they were publishing what people online thought of the candidates. I was shocked to see Ron Paul’s picture as part of the feature. Further, I was astonished to find that the first comment about Ron Paul that they published was mine! I think they edited my comment a bit, I can’t be sure, because I commented two or three times on their website about him, but they got the gist of it right:

Ron Paul Comment Small

Congratulations. I notice they did not put your name though. But that’s great. Go Ron Paul.

Awesome! It’s a wonderful thing to get his name out there.

My comment didn’t get published. I think it was because I mentioned another poster by name (not in a bad way) and said something about both parties selling us all down the river (possibly controversial choice of words). If I’d known they might publish it, I’d have written something more publishable.

I was, however, able to use the forum to PM undecideds to “google ron paul” and invite them to the meet-up. Asking them to google is a safe way to avoid PM’ing for a fight, something that really ticks people off. The invitation is the kicker to get them to ask themselves “Are these people I want to hang around with?” and take their googling seriously. At least one of the published, undecided comments belongs to someone who is now a Ron Pauler.

Another commenter was a serious Ron Pauler who hadn’t signed up for the meet-up yet and I was able to encourage him to do so. I don’t know what the net effect on the campaign is for evangelizing for the meet-ups when someone’s already converted and doing their part, but the comments were a rare opportunity to connect with locals we may not have met otherwise (or as soon?).

The Dayton Daily News never even puts his name in articles of any type. They do not like me either. I am getting even with them on You Tube.

No, the dayton daily news did this one months ago, but you are correct about one thing: they are really terrible now.

How Bob Taft helped Barack Obama become President

November 17, 2008 @ 5:36 PM

Bob Taft, former governor of Ohio and a miserable failure, basically guaranteed a Democratic landslide for the governor’s race in Ohio in 2006. He had at one point a 17 percent approval rating.  His successor, Ted Strickland, beat the Republican Ken Blackwell by a solid 20 points or more if I recall correctly.  Besides, Ohio barely went for Bush in 2004. You do the math. Ohio slips into a budget deficit and recession under Taft’s stewardship (haha) of the state, and the Republicans get swatted in 2006 with the set up for a Democrat victory in 2008.  To make matters worse for Republicans, not one of them who has run …

Ron Paul for Secretary of the Treasury

March 05, 2008 @ 3:55 PM

It looks like McCain could win a lot of support if he promised to nominate Ron Paul to Secretary of the Treasury. Would it be enough to beat a Democrat contender this election? At this stage, probably not. But if the Obama v Hillary battle continues on much longer it will hurt the Democrats a lot.

Obama can beat McCain, Hillary would have a harder time.

I hereby endorse David Esrati for the Democratic nomination for Congress in the Ohio 3rd District

February 23, 2008 @ 7:42 AM

My congressional district, the Ohio 3rd district, is currently occupied by Republican Mike Turner. Mr. Turner is a bandwagon politician. He does nothing notable but bring pork to Dayton. That’s not useful. He supported the war on Iraq, he has supported every Bush policy that I can think of, and it is time for him to retire and move back to Dayton where he has to live like the rest of us. That said, I am endorsing David Esrati for Congress in the Ohio 3rd District. Now, you might be asking yourself why would a Ron Paul supporter and a former Republican ever endorse a Democrat of all things? Well …

no news is good news

May 23, 2008 @ 4:39 PM

Of late, not much has happened to pique my interest or get me writing again. Perhaps that will change in time. Meanwhile, enjoy this brief and somewhat incomplete list of films that I’ve seen so far in 2008. This includes films new and old, the only requirement for the list is that I had never seen them before:

Kind Hearts and Coronets (brilliant)

The Kingdom (well made but that’s about it)

Doomsday (utterly terrible)

Borat (a few cheap laughs was not worth it)

City Hunter (not worth explaining why I watched this)

Juno (vastly overrated in my opinion)

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (solidly unfunny and too long)

Breathless (early, classic Jean Luc Godard, worth watching at least once since he …
